Niagara Falls is comprised of three waterfalls which are located on the border of Ontario, Canada, and New York, USA. The largest of the three is Horseshoe Falls, also known as Canadian Falls, which straddles the border of both countries. The smaller ones – American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls – are within the USA. Every second, around 3160 tons of water flow over Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls – Canada
I got the chance to visit Niagara Falls from the Canadian border a few years ago with my family. Unfortunately, we didn’t have nice weather. It was raining the entire day and it was quite windy. But we still had a great time.
Along the falls is a sidewalk that offers stunning views. It also leads to the Niagara City Cruises. The tickets cost $30 per person. The entire tour lasts about 20 minutes.
I definitely recommend going on this boat tour. Not only will you have amazing views of American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, but you will also get into close proximity of Horseshoe Falls. Once you get near Horseshoe Falls, you will be in absolute awe. The loud noise and power that radiates from this natural wonder will definitely send chills down your spine. Be prepared to get a bit wet from the mist. You will be provided with protective recyclable ponchos though. The boat might also rock a bit so I recommend holding onto something.
There’s also a shop here where you can buy souvenirs and lollipops made from the famous maple syrup.
After we got off the boat, we went back on the sidewalk and walked back to the Horseshoe Falls, so we could see them from the top. Next to it is a Niagara Falls History Museum where you can learn a bit of history on how the falls came to be as well as people who dared to walk across Niagara Falls on a rope.
Make sure you don’t miss out on Niagara Falls Illumination. Every night, they are lit up in glowing colors with visualizations that represent sunrise, sunset, rainbow, and aurora borealis. The 5-minute display is played three times in half an hour. There are different time shows which depend on the time of dusk.
Niagara Falls also offers a fireworks show.
For fans of adrenaline, make sure you go on the Zipline to the Falls which takes you on a thrilling ride above them.
Niagara Falls – USA
The Niagara Falls State Park not only offers stunning views of Niagara Falls but also features lots of different attractions.
To get to close proximity of the falls, go to Cave of Winds. You will descend 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge and experience the thrill from the Hurricane deck.
Another fun way to explore this place is to go on a Maid of the Mist boat tour.
If you are a fan of hikes, make sure you check out the Niagara Falls hiking trails where you can explore the beauty of the falls from different points.
I haven’t had the opportunity to see the falls from the USA border, but next time I visit Niagara Falls, I will definitely go see them from this point of view.
